In order to lift ourselves from the depressive funk brought on by trying to rationalise the thinking behind a card carrying BNP member, J & I decided we just had to consume our own bodyweight in crustaceans. Something about asserting our dominance as a species perhaps, or maybe it’s because they look so different from us and live such different lives. Either way it was time for these prawns to get out of the kitchen and into our bellies.
Dublin Prawns aka Langoustines aka the Norwegian Prawn are caught by the sustainable creel-load off the west coast of Scotland and consumed most heartily in Spain.
Unfortunately they are not cheap, being one of the most valuable seafood catches around. I think our batch was £17.00 a Kg or in this case around 90p a wee beastie. Ouch. But worth splashing out on once in a while.
Dead easy to cook. Just add to a pot of boiling sea water (30g of salt per 1L water), return to the boil and cook for 3-5 minutes.
Toss in melted butter, chopped red chilli and garlic, serve with warm crusty bread, mayo and wedges of lemon.
Serve with a glass or three of white wine, something like the Majella Riesling 2005.
Love seafood, hate racism!
