T.C.U.G. II

May 23, 2009 § 5 Comments

The Croft’ Urban Garden (T.C.U.G.) took it’s first steps last night as eight herbs were planted out in a couple of growbags and a few pots.

We have mint, greek basil, thyme, chives, rosemary, marjoram, sage and italian flat leaf parsley on the go. I’m still waiting on a few large collapsible containers to be delivered so the herbs had to go into the growbags (which were intended for the veg plants when they get here) which will have to do for now.

The herbs were simply planted out in their biodegradable pots and given a quick water to get them started. They all look a bit sad and bedraggled at the moment but I’m assured they will perk up after a week or so.

The hardier, woodier ones are outside but I’ve kept the basil and flat leaf parsley inside the balcony doors where they will get plenty sun safe from the Glasgow elements.

If you would like to have a go to then I ordered the herbs from Rocket Gardens by mailorder.

In one house we owned we had no garden ,just a small balcony, but no space was wasted–strawberries in hanging baskets(next to petunias)cherry tomatoes, next to bamboo, peppers in pots, even managed to get one eggplant, one year, next the gereniums, very mix and match but colourful

I live on the east coast of Canada and we get wonderful warm days 27 degrees yesterday but our nights are always cool 9 degrees last night so I find that I too have to keep my basil in my little greenhouse. I think your parsley will thrive out on you balcony though, in a large enough pot to accomodate it’s root system. I even had one over winter here this year and minus 20 is a good day here in February.

I’m a bit disappointed. At first i thought it was Art. Now its just food. Liff is so like that.

Art is dead. Food is life. And Liff is a mental hospital in Dundee (contrary to what Mr Adams might think).

Thanks for advice all, much obliged!
