The Weather Journals is a music and spoken word collaboration between Iain Morrison‘s Crash My Model Car and Lewis bard Daibhidh Martin.
J & I always really enjoyed their gigs and Daibhidh’s poetry especially is pretty sublime, so I’ve been looking forward to hearing the album. But it never appeared and they all kinda disappeared too. Iain is off recording a solo album, the Weather Journal’s myspace vanished, Crash My Model Car band members are now in new bands and Daibhidh went quiet.
Tonight, I stumbled across the Weather Journals album on a very official and legit international music download site and instantly dropped £7.99 on it. Halfway through I noticed a comment on the download page which read:
“THIS IS AN UNAUTHORISED VERSION OF THE WEATHER JOURNALS ALBUM. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS ALBUM. THE ‘REAL’ VERSION WILL BE RELEASED THIS YEAR. WE ASK YOU TO SUPPORT THE WRITERS / COMPOSERS OF THIS MUSIC BY NOT BUYING THE VERSION CURRENTLY BEING ADVERTISED. YOU WILL BE BUYING AN UNFINISHED PRODUCT…WE ARE CURRENTLY LOOKING INTO THE MATTER…THANK YOU FOR YOUR REPORT…DAIBHIDH AND IAIN “
Oops. Too late. But I promise to buy the official version if and when it drops
So what is going on? Answers on a postcard…
Hopefully, they’ll get it sorted as as I’ve said before it is entirely heartening to hear musicians and bards of this calibre coming out of the islands again.
