There is no shortage of interest and enthusiasm for Harris Tweed in the street-wear and fashion industry at the moment.
The worrying thing is how few brands are aware that there is a mill on the island producing the goods again. In the last week alone I was in touch with Cathal McAteer of London’s Folk Clothing and former Paul Smith designer and One True Saxon founder, Ian Paley at Garbstore and both were unaware of the current situation, Cathal having given up on producing any more HT garments after failing to get his calls returned by the Stornoway mill three years ago.
Both companies were hungry for more info and are now in possession of Rae MacKenzie’s contact details at Harris Tweed Hebrides and hopefully we’ll see the fruit of their labours come AW10.
Meantime here’s Japanese label Beauty & Youth‘s collaboration with the iconic Harris Tweed brand on a collection of fall and winter outerwear for 09. Never one to stray too far from the conventional from the viewpoint of both parties, the jackets include some basic approaches in the visual department with a relatively forward thinking multi-pattern blazer.
