Word on the Twitter vine is that there’s an upcoming Harris Tweed collab with Japanese cult clothing brand Bathing Ape afoot.

Bathing Ape aka BAPE is a Japanese cult company founded in 1996 by music and style guru Nigo.

Once upon a time BAPE ruled all and I recall the surrealness of queuing to enter their Busy Workshop store in Tokyo to have the honour of perusing half a dozen ridiculously expensive tees and other wares.

Such was the hype.

Over the years they’ve clad the likes of MosDef, James Lavelle, Kanye West and Pharrell Williams as well as laid down a myriad of brand collabs with everyone from Pepsi to Spongebob SquarePants.

It’s a fascinating brand that, through limiting production, clever endorsements, slick design and marketing, manages to run the gamut of ultra fanboyism to label snob backlashes.

Now they hook up with Harris Tweed with what looks like a lovely pair of their famous BAPEsta sneaks

Perhaps more interestingly, there’s also the whisper of some work with Rocky Mountain Featherbed, a 1960’s clothing manufacturer from Wyoming, now revived by Japanese vintage specialists.

Word is the Harajuku stalwarts are also using Harris Tweed here too, perhaps something like their rather pleasant down vests with fur collar and leather yoke?

Very nice if so and more info soon…
